Hello,
With the MCS ShoulderCam, when a camera cage requires the Camera Interface Plate, the rear of that plate is the perfect location for the battery Gold Mount, and also appears to provide extra stability for the rail system where it mounts to the Rear Stabilizer. To go handheld, the Camera Interface Plate can be separated from the Baseplate, allowing the Camera, Battery, and EVF to stay together.
But when a camera cage does not require the Camera Interface Plate, does the cage mount directly to the baseplate with nothing to take the place of the Camera Interface Plate? Can the Gold Mount still be mounted somewhere so it is part of the handheld configuration? Thx.

The only cages that require the interface plate are the Nikon and Canon DSLR cages. Mounting the battery directly behind these cameras on the interface plate is the best way to make them balance like a larger camera. The larger cameras/cages do not require the interface plate so in that situation, we move them back to counterweight. This helps balance the larger cameras while keeping the battery out of the way.
If going handheld like you would in ActionCam mode, it is best to just switch to the internal camera battery and leave the weight of the Anton Bauer or Sony V-Mount battery attached to the rest of the rig like in ShoulderCam mode. On the larger cameras at least. On smaller DSLRs, you can easily keep the external battery on the interface plate and still have a compact setup.
